Media Console
Designed to fit into an existing recess, the curves on this piece compliment the rounded profiles of the enclosing walls.
Constructed using more modern techniques, the console relies on dominoes for speed of construction, whilst the drawers are mounted on Blum Movento runners. Adding the Tip-on Blumotion modules to provide push-to-open and soft close functionality meant the drawer fronts could be kept clear of hardware, allowing the continuous grain of the zebrano veneer to become the unobstructed visual focus.
Elsewhere, maple-veneered birch ply panels are used in conjunction with a solid maple frame and drawer boxes. The curved drawer fronts were achieved by laminating a core of flexiply layers with an aeroply skin.
The finger joints were machined using the Origin which, once dialled in, proved to be both quick and accurate. A solid sycamore bottom was rebated into the box front, back and sides.
Pencil Box
A wenge pencil box with sliding lid - an exercise in working with the Shaper Origin and a notoriously difficult timber.

Occasional Table
A solid walnut table with piston fit drawer. The table is traditionally constructed, with the sides and back tenoned into the legs and the panelled top held in place with a button to allow for wood expansion towards the back.
The ash drawer sides and back offset the dark walnut, and the decorative half-blind dovetails further emphasise the contrasting timbers.
Keepsake Box
A solid sycamore through-dovetail box with veneered lid and base. The lid is hinged with handmade sycamore pegs and fettled to achieve a 95 degree open angle. A scooped finger notch provides a simple opening mechanism.
The burr maple top is framed with rippled sycamore to create a crossbanding effect, and walnut stringing further encapsulates the burr's figure.
